Door County Business News: Construction Begins on The Cookery

Construction has begun on The Cookery restaurant located in downtown Fish Creek. After a devastating fire in May, the building where The Cookery had been located was deemed unsalvageable and had to be torn down.

Construction has begun on the new Cookery restaurant in Fish Creek. The original burned in May, 2008.

“It has been a process to get this project started due to a variety of factors, but we are very excited about the new building and to have construction begin,” said Dick Skare, owner of The Cookery.

The new restaurant has been designed by Linville Architects, a firm noted in the region for restaurant design and their commitment to sustainable building.

“Our goal for the new restaurant was to tie the character of the building to the historic downtown of Fish Creek, Linville Architects has done an excellent job and we are very excited about the new design,” Carol Skare, owner of the restaurant commented.

The new restaurant will be a two-story 5,800 square foot building that also includes a basement. The first level will feature the dining room including a porch for outdoor seating. The second level will include a wine bar with a water view.

“We decided to take advantage of the second level to create a space for diners to enjoy a drink before or after their meal or for customers to stop by for a light snack,” Courtney Holdmann Skare added. “We think this will be a real enhancement to the dining experience of our customers.”

The building will be built by Van’s Lumber and Custom Builders of Dyckesville and Egg Harbor. The project is slated to be completed in May.
