Door County Child Support Agency Recognized

The Door County Child Support Agency has earned the federal Certificate of Excellence Award for 2021. It’s one of 18 child-support agencies in Wisconsin that were honored this year.

The agency’s primary responsibilities are establishing paternity, requiring parents to pay child support and provide health insurance, collecting support payments and enforcing that collection when payment is not received.

The local agency demonstrated distinction in all four of the federal performance benchmarks that measure the establishment of paternity, support collections, arrears collections and court orders.

There are fewer than 10 employees in the agency, handling 1,017 cases as of September 2021. Ann Miller, child support specialist, gave the agency’s employees a shout-out when the award was recognized Tuesday during the Door County Board of Supervisors meeting.

“This office has got the best employees that any of you could ever ask for,” Miller said. “I’m so proud of them. We’re a little office, but we do a big punch.”

As of the end of April 2022, the Door County agency led all Wisconsin counties in current collection performance rates.
