Visit the Door County Maritime Museum (DCMM) in Sturgeon Bay during the 29th annual Door County Classic & Wooden Boat Festival (doorcountyclassicboatfestival.com), Aug. 10-11. It features historic and beautiful vessels displayed by their owners or builders throughout the museum grounds, along the waterfront and on the lawn.
The festival also includes the Sikaflex Boat Building Challenge. Watch as two-person teams work feverishly with limited materials on Saturday to craft a boat that will – hopefully – float during the “sea trials” on Sunday.
Festival hours are Saturday, 10 am – 6 pm; and Sunday, 10 am – 4 pm. Enjoy Coast Guard demonstrations, vendors, plein air artists and great food on Sturgeon Bay’s west waterfront.
In honor of the 100th anniversary of the tug John Purves, DCMM is offering a limited number of special, small-group Nuts & Bolts tours of the tugboat that last about 90 minutes and give guests a chance to see areas not seen on standard tours. Tour dates are Aug. 15, 10:30 am; Aug. 24, 2 pm; Sept. 6, 10:30 am; and Sept. 14, 2 pm. Visit doorcountytickets.com to get tickets.
