Door County Community News: Donations and Volunteers Sought for the Children’s Christmas Stores

The Family Centers of Door County are currently seeking donations of items for the annual Children’s Christmas Stores. In the past, area retailers and individuals have donated new items for the stores that allow children ages 2 – 12 to purchase holiday gifts for their family at lower than retail prices. The children, with the help of Santa’s elves, pick out their gifts and wrap them while their parents wait. No child is denied for inability to pay and all proceeds will benefit families in Door County.

This year there are four dates and locations for the Children’s Stores, including: Sat., Nov. 22, 10 am – 2pm, at Bay View Lutheran Church, 340 W. Maple, Sturgeon Bay; Sat. Nov. 29, noon – 2 pm at the Bertschinger Center, 7860 Hwy 42, Egg Harbor; Sun., Nov. 30, 1 – 3 pm, at the Washington Island Recreation Center; and Sun. Dec.13, 8 – 11 am, at Southern Door High School, 2073 County DK, Brussels.

Volunteers are also needed to help with shopping and wrapping and other activities. At the Sturgeon Bay location only, we will have activities for families to participate in (cookie decorating, story time, crafts, face painting and Christmas videos) while they wait.

If you would like to help, please call the Family Centers at 920.825.1430 or 800.856.1651. Arrangements can be made for item pickup or monetary donations may be sent to the Family Centers at 1487 County Trunk DK, Brussels, WI 54204.
