Door County Community News: Transportation

Door-Tran has introduced half-price transportation vouchers, another step toward improving public transportation in Door County.

The organization – which was implemented through the Door County Transportation Consortium whose vision is of a self-sustaining, community driven affordable, available, and accessible transportation system for Door County – recently expanded its transportation information and referral communication center to include free car pool matching services.

Now, transportation vouchers can be purchased at half-price by individuals or full price by businesses and organizations. Interested persons should complete an application to verify at least part-time Door County residency, and after receiving approval from Door-Tran, the purchase of vouchers may begin. Individuals may purchase a $5 value voucher for $2.50 and a $10 value voucher for $5. Businesses and organizations may also purchase vouchers for their customers at the face value of the voucher to distribute travel vouchers free to their customers or charge the Door-Tran’s half-price.

Once a voucher is obtained, it can be used with the following transportation providers: American Red Cross, Door County-Green Bay Shuttle, Door County Senior Resource Center, Service Taxi Cab, Sunshine House, Inc., or the Washington Island Community Van. Up to $200 of transportation services per month may be purchased.

Funding for this program was received from the Fred J. Peterson Foundation, Rotary Club of Sturgeon Bay, an anonymous donor, and Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

Applications for the transportation vouchers may be completed via mail or in person at 1300 Egg Harbor Road, Ste 124, Sturgeon Bay, fax 920.743.4504, email [email protected] or on-line at http://www.door-tran.com.
