Door County COVID-19 Update: Jun. 5-12

As of press time Wednesday, Door County’s confirmed cases of COVID-19 remained at 38, with three deaths. Statewide, there were 18,917 cases and 607 deaths, with the percentage of tests coming back positive continuing to trend downward.

During the weekly Facebook Live session June 1, County Health Manager Sue Powers and Door County Medical Center Chief Medical Officer Jim Heise said the county is prepared to handle a surge in cases if it arises.

Powers confirmed that cases are reported at a patient’s place of permanent residence. That means that if a seasonal resident or visitor from Brown County tests positive for COVID-19 while in Door County, it would be reported in the Brown County count, not the Door County count. However, Powers said she knows of only three positive tests performed here of people from outside the county.

Heise said Door County Medical Center has performed 57 antibody tests, with one positive result. Positive antibody tests are not included in the local case count.

A free, drive-through COVID-19 testing site opened in Sturgeon Bay June 3-4 at the Door County Justice Center.
