Door County Cross Country Ski Report

What a week of highs and lows for area cross country skiers. The best day of skiing this year was probably Monday, but the warm temperatures subsequently destroyed the good trails we had in Sturgeon Bay. Unfortunately the Ski The Door event scheduled for this upcoming weekend has been canceled due to poor trail conditions. Here are the current trail groomers reports:

Potawatomi State Park

Conditions: Trails as of Wednesday were in poor condition but still skiable. Trails were last groomed on Monday, and the track set. This was a great effort by the volunteers but unfortunately the unusual conditions have deteriorated the surface.

Whitefish Dunes State Park

Conditions: Trails last groomed Monday, January 30. Since then there has been considerable melting during the day and freezing overnight, resulting in mostly ice, with some snow and quite a few bare spots. Skiing is not recommended at this time.

Crossroads at Big Creek

Conditions: We have no current report but with our warm temperatures this week undoubtedly the open areas have mostly bare patches.

Peninsula State Park

Conditions: Unfortunately, we have a combination of blacktop and ice in about equal amounts. There is no skiing at this time.

Newport State Park

Conditions: No current report but presumably there is no snow and the trails are unskiable.
