Adult applicants are sought for the October Delegation to travel to Door County’s Sister City Jingdezhen, China. A delegation of ten or less will be guests of the City of Jingdezhen for four days in October and will be treated to a tour of a variety of cultural and community events and sights including the 2014 International Ceramic Fair.

Jingdezhen is located approximately 275 miles southwest of Shanghai. The City of Jingdezhen is known as the “Porcelain Capital of the World” and has been creating porcelain and other ceramic products for more than 1,700 years.

All Door County delegation expenses, travel, food and lodging while in Jingdezhen will be provided by the City of Jingdezhen. Members of the Door County Delegation are responsible for the cost of their transportation to and from Jingdezhen.

Since May of 2004 the County of Door has had a sister city relationship with the City of Jingdezhen. Over the ten-year period of the sister city program activities have focused on mutual communications of good will and delegate travel exchanges by representatives of the two communities.

Most recently an eight-member delegation from Jingdezhen visited Door County in 2012 and a ten member from Door County visited Jingdezhen in 2013. Door County has received an invitation for a Delegation to travel to Jingdezhen in October 2014 and a Jingdezhen Delegation is expected to return to Door County in 2015. The goal is to have a Door County Delegation that is comprised of people of varied backgrounds, occupation and interests to represent the various aspects of the Door County community.

While there is no formal deadline for applying to be a member of the Door County Delegation, it will be limited to ten members and openings will be filled as applications are received and approved. The final delegation membership shall be completed as soon as possible, but no later than September 1 to fully prepare for the October travel.
