Door County Distillery Named Wisconsin Distillery of the Year

During the 11th annual New York International Spirits Competition, held virtually in August, Door County Distillery (doorcountydistillery.com) was named both Wisconsin Distillery of the Year and Wisconsin Rum Distillery of the Year. The enterprise, located at 5806 Hwy 42 in Carlsville, produces 17 spirits, including vodkas, whiskeys, gins, brandies and rums.

The competition drew a record-breaking number of submissions this year: more than 1,200 spirits from 30-plus countries worldwide. The judges – all working trade buyers from the New York City area – judged the spirits by their category and price.

Door County Distillery’s Golden Rum, released in 2019, earned 92 points out of 100 to receive a silver medal. It’s a mellow, sweet, 80-proof rum made from sugar cane and aged in previously used single-malt-whiskey barrels. It boasts notes of coconut, toasted marshmallow and toffee.
