Two Southern Door County businesses were recognized at the April 30 Door County Economic Development Corporation’s annual luncheon at the Stone Harbor Resort and Conference Center in Sturgeon Bay.

Wienke’s Market

Don and Jane Wienke started the business as a roadside farm stand in 1970. Today Wienke’s Market is a year-round business with a couple dozen people employed year-round and more added during the summer season. The business has more than 200 accounts throughout the Midwest and recorded double-digit growth the last three years.

Renard’s Cheese

Leslie Gast, left, of Baylake Bank, presented the 40th Annual Industry of the Year award to Ann and Chris Renard of Renard’s Cheese at Tuesday’s annual luncheon.

Renard’s Cheese was named the 40th annual Industry of the Year Award winner. Chris and Ann Renard are the third generation to run the 51-year-old family business. The business expanded its offerings and added a 1,900-square-foot retail store on State 57 in Brussels last year. It also added 10 jobs, for a total of 29 employees. Ann said the deli at the new store has really taken off, and the new pizza offering may result in wholesaling for other retail outlets.
