Door County Entertainment: Pianist Fred Moyer Performs for Final February Fest Concert

Pianist Fred Moyer will finish the Peninsula Music Festival’s 2009 February Fest with a recital on Sunday, February 22 at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church in Ellison Bay. The 3 pm concert will include a reception after the concert and is sponsored by Robert and Cynthia Sargent. General admission seating is just $30 per person with children and student tickets just $10.

During over 25 years as a full-time concert pianist, Frederick Moyer has established a vital musical career that has taken him to 43 countries and to a number of far-flung venues. He has appeared as piano soloist with world-renowned orchestras, and his 24 recordings on the Biddulph, GM and JRI labels comprise works by over 30 composers and reflect an affinity for a wide variety of styles.

Moyer enhances the concert experience by introducing each piece and sharing his knowledge of the works that he is performing. The program he brings to Shepherd of the Bay includes Fantasy in F sharp Minor by Felix Mendelssohn in honor of the 200th anniversary of his birth. The other two pieces on the program are by Robert Schumann. The most interesting part of the program will be when Mr. Moyer showcases new technology that will allow him to play Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op. 54 accompanied by an orchestra. The orchestra, however, was recorded by Music Minus One and is used with their permission via Moyer’s laptop.

To add to the fun of the afternoon, concert attendees will have the opportunity to bid on a gift basket donated by Mary Ann Johnson. The basket theme is cooking and will be filled with items related to cooking and food. Proceeds from the sale of the basket will benefit the February Fest of the Peninsula Music Festival.

Reservations for this final concert in the Peninsula Music Festival’s February Fest are available for just $30 general admission and can be purchased by calling the Festival Office at 920.854.4060 or tickets will be available at the door on the day of the concert.
