Door County Fiddle Fest Features The Blue & The Blond

The second annual Door County Fiddle Fest will be held Aug. 21 at 7 pm and features Vidar Skrede with The Blue & The Blond and Door County Fiddlers.

The Blue & The Blond is where Finnish kantele meets Norwegian hardingfele, strings sounding with voices, tunes and songs are approached with warmth; or in other words, a folk music duo with a Nordic horizontal polarity.

The duo consists of Jutta Rahmel – kantele & vocal, from Finland, and Vidar Skrede – hardingfele, fiddle, guitar & vocal, from Norway. Both are musicians known from the Nordic folk music scene, each performing on their respective country’s national instruments. In their musical meeting they find a common ground for both their instruments, with background in their Nordic traditions, and the drive of their own musical expressions, creating their own sound. They present tune types you find in Nordic traditions, such as polska, halling, schottische and waltz, songs like Finnish rekilaulu and Norwegian ballads, and pieces from their own imaginations. The fest takes place at Bjِrklunden Lodge, located at 7590 Boynton Lane in Baileys Harbor. Tickets must be picked up in advance at the Baileys Harbor Information Center in the Baileys Harbor Town Hall. A freewill offering benefitting Northern Door Children’s Center will be collected.
