Door County Folk Alliance Hosts Barn Dance

On October 22, the Door County Folk Alliance (DCFA) will host an old-fashioned barn dance from 7 – 9:30 pm. Although the dance will not be held in a barn, but rather in the Knights of Columbus Hall on Tacoma Beach Road near the intersection of County Road U and Highway 42/57 in Sturgeon Bay, the music and dances will be based on traditional barn, or contra, dances. The music will be provided by the Sugar on the Floor Barn Dance Band and the caller for the dance will be Tim Jenkins, a favorite caller from Viroqua, Wis.

This is an especially significant dance for the DCFA, as it is their annual fundraiser designed to generate funding for next year’s dances. For almost 10 years, the DCFA has hosted dances for the Door County community, holding 76 dances over those years. This is the second annual fundraiser and has been named in honor of the founder of these dances, Cy Rosenthal, who passed away in 2010.

Beginners are always welcome. All dances are taught by the caller; they are easy to learn.

The dance is free, but donations are appreciated to the non-profit DCFA. Refreshments will be served. For more information visit http://www.dcfolk.com.
