Door County Galleries and Art – Base Camp Coffee Presents “The People I Know” Portrait Exhibition

Base Camp Coffee Bar, located below Ecology Sports in Sister Bay, announces an opening reception for “The People I Know” portrait show of acrylic paintings by Door County native Jen Hough on Saturday, September 6 from 6 – 8 pm. The collection is comprised of acrylic portraits of people who Hough sees or is affected by on a regular basis.

“These are the people who really make up my Door County,” she said. “The personalities of the local people up here infuse an exalting influence on everyday activities. Going to the Fish Creek Market, the post office or even for a cup of coffee, I find to be exaggeratedly interesting because of the distinctive characteristics of each of the people I have interactions with.”

After photographing individuals from around the county, Hough composed a collection of modern 8″x8″ paintings using a vibrantly expressive palette. Individual personality’s are brought to life through the minimalist interpretation of the individual juxtaposed to the vivid color combinations.

Both Hough and Base Camp Coffee owner Joel Kersebet are donating the proceeds from sales of this artwork to the Door County Land Trust, a cause both feel is an invaluable asset of such a unique area.

About 30 paintings of Door County locals will be on display at Base Camp in Sister Bay though October. Base Camp, located at 10904 Highway 42, is open daily from 7:30 am – 3 pm. For more information call 920.854.7894.
