Door County Historical Museum Celebrates CHERRIES!

The Door County Historical Museum is hosting an all day celebration on July 24 in recognition of “CHERRIES!”

In the past, Door County would begin each year with a Cherry Pie baking contest during the winter months. In May, when the blossoms were in full bloom, a Blossom Queen would be chosen. Then in July the long awaited cherries would ripen and finally be available to the public for pick-your-own or purchase at a roadside stand. Visitors flocked to Door County to partake of these traditions, and visitors at the museum will be able to see a display of photos and information from past cherry events – all while enjoying samples of traditional and more modern cherry treats.

At 2 pm, former Cherry Blossom Queens and Princesses will reunite at the museum to mingle and chat with museum visitors.

Anyone who participated in any past cherry promotion events is welcome to contact the museum and bring in a photo for display.

The Door County Historical Museum, open from 10 am – 4:30 pm, is located at 18 N 4th Avenue, Sturgeon Bay. For more information, call 920.743.5809.
