Door County Humane Society Featured Pets

Twenty-four pounds of orange affection – that’s Big Earl. Yes, it’s a record for the shelter but he handles himself gracefully and has no problem climbing onto a chair for a quick nap. Big Earl was found along Bayshore Drive on Thanksgiving Day. An exterior portion of one ear is missing due to frostbite; his hearing is not affected. Big Earl is neutered, 3 to 5 years old, and up to date with shots.

Nelson Mandela has the calm, gentlemanly quality of his namesake. He sits very still when his ears are cleaned or his nails are trimmed. Nelson is a small male Beagle, 25 pounds and about seven years old. A stray from Forestville, Nelson was seen running alone in early March 2011. Because his teeth were in such poor shape, several were removed when he was anesthetized for neutering. He’s learning how reassuring it is to have a warm bed, lots of toys and two meals a day. Nelson would be a dear companion to his new family.

Adoption costs are $85 for cats and kittens, $120 for dogs, and $60 for puppies. The Door County Humane Society, located at 3475 Park Drive (County PD)
in Sturgeon Bay, is open for adoption Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
from noon – 4 pm. For more information call 920.746.1111 or visit http://www.dooranimals.com.
