Door County Humane Society Seeks Donations for Washington Island Cats

As of Aug. 17, the Door County Humane Society (DCHS) retrieved 40 cats from a single property on Washington Island. These 40 cats have been received at DCHS where shelter staff – with the assistance of a veterinarian – will continue to assess each individual cat’s health and behavioral status and specific medical needs.

The house on the property where these cats resided was demolished on Thursday morning. After witnessing only one cat fleeing the building as demolition began, shelter staff feels confident that most of the cats were safely removed.

DCHS would like to remind everyone that this rescue is not funded by government dollars and that these cats continue to need all the support they can get. There are several options if you would like to help. You can donate at doorcountyhumanesociety.org or mail a check to DCHS, PO Box 93, Sturgeon Bay, WI, 54235. Physical donations will also be appreciated of much-needed supplies including: paper towels, scoopable cat litter, Purina One Tender Selects Blend with Chicken dry cat food, chicken or turkey flavored baby food, and pate-style canned wet cat food. DCHS is able to receive donations daily.
