Door County Libraries to Host Naomi Shihab Nye Discussion Groups

Poetry discussion groups will gather at three branches of the Door County Library in February and March, in advance of Naomi Shihab Nye’s March 23 visit to Door County. Write On, Door County is sponsoring these discussions to talk about her poetry, as well as her prose. While her collection Transfer: poems will be the focus of many of the discussions, participants are encouraged to attend if they have read other works or if they are not yet familiar with the writing of one of America’s most admired poets.

Nye’s poetry lends a fresh perspective to ordinary events, people, and objects, and many of her books are for children as well as adults. The library’s online catalog (Infosoup.org) contains links to 20 of her books. Books can be requested from home and picked up at a local library.

The discussion groups are scheduled as follows: Feb. 11, 11 am – 12:30 pm, Fish Creek Library; Feb. 21, 2-3:30 pm, Egg Harbor Library; March 8, 10 – 11:30 am, Northern Door YMCA, Fish Creek; and March 11, 10-11:30 am, Baileys Harbor Library.

A poetry reading with poet Naomi Shihab Nye will be held March 23, 7 – 8:30 pm, at Door Community Auditorium in Fish Creek. For more information visit doorcountylibrary.org or writeondoorcounty.org.
