Door County Live Music: Primavera Strings Perform at Joe Jo’s

Door County’s musical community was recently enriched by the formation of another group – Primavera Strings, a string trio with Beth Chafey-Hon (violin), Lynn Gudmundsen (violin), and Hans Christian (cello).

These three musicians have already become household names in their own right: Chafey-Hon has worked tirelessly as a violinist and concert organizer – her next event will be a benefit concert to raise diabetes awareness at Prince Of Peace Church in Sturgeon Bay on April 5; Gudmundsen has started the annual Door County Bluegrass Camp, which will again be held this year in early August with a stellar faculty and reasonable prices for students of all ages and abilities; and Hans Christian’s latest endeavor is the new professional recording studio called STUDIO 330 in Sturgeon Bay, where he produces CDs with local and national artists and also teaches workshops.

What makes Primavera Strings interesting is the fact all three musicians have detoured from classical music in their creative lives to explore other styles of music – rock, bluegrass, electronic, world music, etc. – but have now formed this trio to play exclusively classical pieces and standards. The group has prepared a vast repertoire of trios by Bach, Haendel, Vivaldi, Corelli, and Mozart, mixed in with stellar arrangements of classic melodies from movies and show tunes. Their concerts are a delightful program for any age group.
