Door County Maritime Museum Announces Merry-Time Festival of Trees Events

After a successful fifth season in 2017 when festively decorated trees could be found throughout the Door County Maritime Museum galleries, the Merry-Time Festival of Trees returns in 2017 with 37 uniquely decorated trees and wreaths donated by businesses and individuals.

The festival runs Nov. 11 through Dec. 12. Children’s raffles are planned for Nov. 25 and Dec. 2 while the adults can take a chance to win beautiful trees and wreaths from Nov. 11 through Dec. 12.

Start off the festival with a “Stress-Free” Holiday Cooking Demo on Nov. 11 at 10:30 am. Thyme Catering will prepare participants for a stress-free holiday season. There will be cooking demos, samples of prepared foods, recipes and holiday refreshments. Registration is $30.

On Nov. 11 at 2 pm, learn to quilt the “old-fashioned” way and make a quilted tree ornament. Bring a favorite piece of material or use material provided by the experienced local quilters who will help. At least two six-inch squares are needed. Registration is $20.

A pair of local school bake sale clubs from Southern Door Parents Involved in Education and Zion Lutheran School will share their delectable delights with the Door County Maritime Museum on Nov. 11.

Every day is a “kid’s day” during the festival. Every child accompanied by an adult will receive free admission to museum with a nominal Cana Island restoration donation with matching funds from ERA Starr Realty. The regular adult museum admission of $10 will apply and will include one free raffle ticket.

Nov. 25 is the Merry-Time Fun Kid’s Day and will be filled with excitement from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm. Bring the children in for a raffle, scavenger hunt, elf trivia, bean bag toss, cookie decorating and crafts. Raffle items will be donated by Child’s Play.

Children will have a unique experience telling Santa their secret wishes to Santa on the tug John Purves on Dec. 2. Children’s entertainer Randy Peterson will perform Christmas favorites and more that day. There will also be a raffle for items from Dancing Bear.

The month-long event culminates with the “Jingle, Jingle, Mix & Mingle” event on Dec. 12, offering a bountiful reception, the opportunity to browse and bid in a silent and live auction and the culmination of the raffle ticket tree giveaway.
