The Door County Maritime Museum will kick off a couple of Saturdays of fun for kids with the annual Kid’s Day at the Sturgeon Bay museum on Nov. 26. Kids are admitted free to the museum throughout the Merry-Time Festival of Trees, running through Dec. 13 with a nominal Cana Island donation. Activities are planned from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm.
In addition to the family-oriented Sea Dogs exhibit and 400’ freighter interactive game, other activities planned include a scavenger hunt, storytelling, elf trivia, cookie decorating, a bean bag toss game, and crafts.
The scavenger hunt will encourage kids to explore the entire museum. Each will be given a list of 10 things to locate in the museum and receive a treat once they find all 10. A story time area will be created where volunteers read Christmas and holiday stories. A variety of craft projects will be offered including: writing a postcard to Santa Claus, creating reindeer hats as well as paper cup snowmen, paper bag puppies, reindeer clips and origami dogs.
The fun continues Dec. 3 when Santa Claus makes his annual appearance on the Tug John Purves from 10 am to 1 pm.
The Door County Maritime Museum is also participating in the DOOR CANcer Holiday Home Tour on Dec. 3 with access to the museum.
While kids are admitted free (ages 17 & under), adults also receive a bonus with their $10 admission fee as each admission comes with a $5 raffle ticket for a fully decorated tree. For more information, call 920.743.5958 or visit dcmm.org.
