Door County Master Gardeners Adds Nine New Members

A graduation celebration was held Aug. 12 to welcome nine new members to the Door County Master Gardener Association. The new members completed a minimum of 36 hours of classroom education and at least 24 hours of volunteer service since beginning their formal training in January of 2018.

New members are:  Kris Lewis, Karen Newbern, Annette Heck, Lonnie Vitse, Sue Kunz, Shawn Mathys, Dan Waszak, Marty Ross and Jeanine Brennan. The class has been actively involved with greenhouse activities, the annual Master Gardener Plant Sale, the Garden Door Open House, and the planting and maintenance of two annual beds within the Garden Door. Many members are also volunteering their time to other Master Gardener Outreach Projects throughout Door County.

The Garden Door is a showcase garden located on the grounds of the Peninsular Agricultural Research Station, 4312 Hwy 42, Sturgeon Bay. The garden is planted and maintained exclusively by Door County Master Gardener Volunteers. It is free and open to the public.

To apply for the 2019 class, complete an application on the website or pick up an application at the UW-Extension office, located on the second floor of the Government Building, 421 Nebraska St. in Sturgeon Bay. The 2019 class begins in January. Applications are currently being accepted. No previous gardening experience is required.
