Door County Masters at Miller Art Museum

“Rococo Splendor” by Karsten Topelmann.

The Miller Art Museum opens the new exhibit “Masters…Door County Artists Who Have Been Working for 50+ Years” on July 27 with a public reception from 5 -6:30 pm.

The participating artists are: Jack Anderson, Abe Cohn, Malin Ekman, Jim Ingwersen, Emmett Johns, Flora M. Saenz Langlois, Charles L. Peterson, Ruth Philipon, Ellen Sprogo-Topelmann, Karsten Topelmann, Rosemary Utzinger and Sylvia Youell. A portrait/tribute of writer Norbert Blei by Emmett Johns will accompany this group.

Each artist was asked to choose five pieces to represent themselves, not an easy task for artists who have been working and creating for over 50 years. There is much to be admired about longevity and creative production. Artist Faith Ringgold says experience counts; “Experience certainly gives you insights into things you didn’t have in earlier years. You’ve made more things, you’ve honed your craft, experienced more books, more criticism and more praise.”

This exhibit will continue through Sept. 10. Located at 107 S 4th Avenue in Sturgeon Bay, Miller Art Museum is open 10 am – 8 pm Monday and 10 am – 5 pm Tuesday through Saturday. For more information call 920.746.0707 or e-mail [email protected].
