Door County Medical Center Restricts Visits to Skilled Nursing Facility

Door County Medical Center (DCMC) is requesting that family and friends refrain from visiting residents in the Pete and Jelaine Horton Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) unless absolutely necessary.

The first priority of DCMC is to ensure that residents are cared for in a safe and healthy environment and as such are following the recommendation of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“At this time, we request that family and friends do not visit the center,” said Dr. Chona Antonio, Medical Director, DCMC SNF.  “Out of an abundance of caution, we are limiting all visitors to our facility unless absolutely necessary,”

The following policy is currently being implemented:

  • Necessary visits will be limited to one designated individual.
  • Visitation will only be permitted between the hours of 8:30 am and 5:30 pm Monday through Friday.
  • The main entrance will remain locked and staff will be available at the front desk to allow entry.
  • All visitors will be screened for respiratory symptoms and temperatures monitored with each entry.
  • All visitors are requested to sign in and out, and list who they are visiting.

Visitors to the center will see signs on the entryway doors to notify visitors of this policy. If you are experiencing a cough, fever, sore throat, runny nose, and/or shortness of breath, DO NOT VISIT.

If you do visit, help prevent the spread of infection by exercising proper hand washing hygiene as well as coughing and sneezing etiquette. Please also avoid shaking hands and hugging with any individual.

“We understand that connecting with your loved ones is incredibly important, and there are a variety of other ways you might consider communicating with them. These may include telephone, email, text, video chat or social media,” said Nancy Bohrman, Nursing Home Administrator.

If you believe a visit to the center is necessary, DCMC requests that you call the Skilled Nursing Facility at (920) 746-3719 prior to your arrival.

DCMC is in close contact with the local and state health departments, and will continue to work with local officials on keeping our community safe and informed.
