Door County Outpost Increases Music Offerings in 2009

The Door County Outpost Gallery and Café enters the 2009 summer season with a number of exciting changes. British transplant Carl Hruza and his wife Susan, a native of Green Bay, relocated their Green Lake, Wisconsin art gallery business to the Outpost at the end of last season, re-opening the main building as Door County Outpost Gallery and Café.

“The Outpost had a good reputation as a place for live music when we arrived here in 2008, but few people associated it with good food and retail shopping,” said Carl Hruza. “We’ve worked at developing the music program further for 2009, but we’ve also opened a fine art gallery and gift shop, along with an upper level Tasting and Events room.”

This summer, the Outpost is boasting a schedule of 33 performance events featuring a broad range of musical genres. The crown jewel of the schedule is the “Art of Music” Summer Concert Series arranged on behalf of the Outpost by Terry Lundahl’s Dragonfly Agency. Eleven “Art of Music” concerts are scheduled for the summer, featuring live performances from some of the nation’s leading touring musicians.

“Our focus this year is on developing our music program,” explained Carl Hruza. “With our selection of artwork and a few interior layout changes, we’ve created an intimate atmosphere where our guests can relax and listen to some of the best live music available in Door County.” An ambitious addition to the Outpost music program is the “Fair Trade for Talent” competition. Utilizing the concept of “fair trade,” the competition will focus on entertaining the public, as well as “giving back” to the music community.

Commencing June 30 and continuing for six consecutive Tuesday evenings, the Saturday, August 15 grand finale will feature 18 finalists selected from more than 450 entries. Awards will assist musicians in developing their careers, including providing a contract for headlining a 2010 summer concert. The Door County Outpost Gallery & Café is also home to the “meet & greet” events for the Peg Egan Performing Art Center.
