Door County Performance – Accordion Jamfest

The fall 2008 Door County Accordion Jamfest will be held Sunday, October 26 from 1 – 5 pm at the Institute Saloon Dancehall, located on Highway 57, north of Sturgeon Bay. Both polka-playing musicians and the public are welcome.

The fourth accordion event held in the past two years, the event’s central theme is button accordions and concertinas, accompanied by backup instruments including drums, tuba, guitar and bass.

Players and their backup performers will perform on stage for 20 minutes before another group will begin their session.

If past events are an indicator, the audience should hear the sounds of many different performers throughout the afternoon. Players are encouraged to join other players, from amateurs to professionals. The goal of this semi-annual event is to revive interest in button accordion and concertina playing in Door County. The event will provide an opportunity for both accomplished and amateur players to join on stage, bringing out the wonderful sound of these old time reed instruments that provided listening enjoyment to native county families for over a hundred years.
