Door County Performance – Enjoy a Magical Renaissance Christmas

Musicians Joel Spears, Stephanie Sheffield, Gary Berkenstock, and Phillip W. Serna at the 2007 “Renaissance Christmas.”

For those who want to experience a new, unique and wonderful holiday event, “Old Christmas Returned! A Renaissance Christmas” is a concert not to be missed. This is the fifth year that Midsummer’s Music Festival has presented this outstanding series performed by the Chicago Early Music Consort, and there is no better place to share the excitement, decorations and spirit of “A Renaissance Christmas” than at Bjorklunden on Friday, December 12 starting at 5 pm. Co-Committee Chair, Lucy Klug, explains, “It has been a joy and a privilege to be involved in the planning and the setting up of the annual ‘A Renaissance Christmas’ benefit dinner and concert. It is always a memorable musical event and it raises important funds for Midsummer’s Music so they can continue to present programs like this, along with their summer concert series. This fundraiser has become a favorite not just for the wonderful music but also for the location.”

This year guests may arrive at 5 pm and enjoy beverages and hors d’oeuvres in the Lakeside Room while enjoying the company of fellow music lovers and viewing the silent auction items, an assortment of treasures from local artists and businesses. At 6 pm guests will move into Vail Hall for a buffet dinner catered by Bruce Alexander of Alexander’s. After dinner guests will retire to the Lakeside Room for dessert and coffee while Vail Hall is made ready for the concert. The new program “Old Christmas Returned!” features Stephanie Sheffield, soprano; Gary Berkenstock, recorders, crumhorn, and rackett; Joel Spears, lute, theorbo; and Phillip W. Serna, viola da gamba. The audience will experience secular and non-secular music as it was played during the Renaissance period. Tickets for this event are $60 per person all inclusive ($30 per ticket is tax-deductible) and advance reservations are required. Seating is limited so reserve early by calling 920.854.7088 or visiting http://www.midsummersmusic.com. There will also be two goodwill offering (suggested $10 per adult) concerts on Saturday, December 13 at 7:30 pm at Shepherd of the Bay in Ellison Bay, and Birch Creek’s Juniper Hall on Sunday, December 14 at 2 pm.
