On April 28, Jeanie Tomasko from Middleton, and her co-author Sharon Auberle, Door County Poet Laureate, were awarded first prize for their chapbook, Dovetail, published by Bent Paddle Press. Twenty-eight chapbooks were entered by 29 poets. The prize was given by the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets at its spring conference in Oshkosh.
Chapbook contest judge Pat Valdata, an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland University College, said of the winners, “Dovetail is a gem of a chapbook. It’s one thing to be an accomplished poet and another to be an accomplished visual artist, but Jeanie Tomasko and Sharon Auberle are, each of them, talented in both categories.”
Second place went to Sharon Foley for her chapbook What Is Endured, published by Finishing Line Press. Honorable mentions include Karla Huston (Appleton), Judy Kolosso (Slinger) and Stewart Cole (Oshkosh).
