Door County Rep. Bies Recognized on Conservation Honor Roll

Garey Bies (R – Sister Bay) was recognized by the Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters for leadership on conservation issues in its 2009-2010 Conservation Scorecard. Bies, the 1st District Assemblyman representing Door County and parts of Brown and Kewaunee County in the Wisconsin Assembly, was named to the Conservation Honor Roll for his work on the phosphorus ban in lawn fertilizers.

The Conservation Scorecard records legislators’ votes on conservation-related bills ranging from promoting renewable energy and protecting children from toxics to increasing hunting and recreational opportunities.

Bies also earned the Conservation Leadership Award from the Nature Conservancy for his work on the phosphorus ban.

At an event at the Conservancy’s Mink River Preserve, the Conservancy presented awards to Bies, Vicky and Bud Harris, Shirley Griffin, Bill and Betty Parsons and the Ecological Services Office of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Green Bay.
