Door County Resident Releases “Starting Over”

Recently published, Starting Over is the first in a series of Andy McLeod mystery novels written by Baileys Harbor resident Bob McCurdy. Novel Ideas of Baileys Harbor will host a book signing from 1:30 – 3:30 pm on Dec. 10.

The novel’s protagonist is an ex-social worker who bailed out from his professional life and moved to Door County after his two grown sons are on their own. Andy begins pursuing woodcarving, purchases an old farmstead, and embarks on a romantic relationship with a former colleague, Stephanie Brandt, who is visiting the county. As the holidays approach a series of disturbing events begin occurring to Stephanie.

The book is as much of a psycho-drama as a mystery; it address a number of psychological issues including fear of intimacy, stress reactions related to war experiences, grief, anger, friendship, and loyalty, all of which culminate in a sort of triumph.

A sequel to Starting Over has been completed and is in the editing process. McCurdy plans to write a third novel in the series over this winter.
