Door County Sail & Power Offer “Mariner’s Compass” Seminar

August 13, the Door County Sail & Power Squadron is offering a free two-hour seminar, “Mariner’s Compass,” beginning at 9 am at SkipperBud’s Quarterdeck Marina, located at 705 Quarterdeck Lane, Sturgeon Bay.

Senior Navigator Bob Stierna of Sturgeon Bay will teach “Mariner’s Compass.” Stierna has boated nearly his entire life, both on sailboats and powerboats. He is currently the Door County Sail & Power Squadron Executive Officer.

Participants in “Mariner’s Compass” will learn how to select, install, calibrate and use a compass, which features are most important, how to deal with variation between true and magnetic north, and how to adjust a compass to remove most of the deviation caused by local magnetic influences. “Mariner’s Compass” is an essential seminar for all boaters. The final seminar in the Squadron’s summer seminar series is “Anchoring,” which will take place on August 27.

To register for “Mariner’s Compass,” contact Squadron Education Officer Jeff Rosenfeld at 920.559.7520 or via email at [email protected]. For more information visit http://www.usps.org/door or the Squadron’s Facebook page.
