Door County Sail & Power Offers “How to Use a Chart” Seminar

The Door County Sail & Power Squadron is offering a free two-hour seminar on July 9 entitled “How to Use a Chart.” The seminar will begin at 9 am and take place at SkipperBud’s Quarterdeck Marina, located 705 Quarterdeck Lane in Sturgeon Bay.

Attendees of the seminar will learn about planning a route on a chart, what’s above and below the water, depths and heights, aids to navigation, chart features, selecting a safe course, and more.

Steve Rank, a long-time Squadron member, will teach the seminar. A sailor who lives and sails in Sturgeon Bay, Rank has taught a variety of seminars, as well as the full-length courses on seamanship, piloting, and advanced piloting for the Squadron.

Three additional free seminars are planned for this season, including “Powerboat Handling” on July 23, “Mariner’s Compass” on August 13, and “Anchoring” on August 27. Each 2-hour seminar will begin at 9 am at the Quarterdeck Marina.

To register for seminars, contact Squadron Education Officer Jeff Rosenfeld at 920.559.7520 or via email at [email protected]. For more information on the seminars, the Squadron, and its public offerings, visit http://www.usps.org/door or the Squadron’s Facebook page.
