Door County Sail & Power Squadron Offer Free Vessel Safety Checks

Free Vessel Safety Checks (VSCs) will be provided by the Door County Sail & Power Squadron beginning Saturday, May 28 in conjunction with National Safe Boating Week (NSBW).

The goal of NSBW, taking place May 21 – 27, is to heighten awareness among recreational boaters of the importance of always wearing a life jacket.

A VSC is a courtesy examination by a trained specialist of a boat owner’s vessel to verify the presence and condition of certain safety equipment required by state and the federal regulations.

Saturday, May 28, examiners will be at SkipperBud’s Quarterdeck Marina, located at 705 Quarterdeck Lane in Sturgeon Bay, from 9 am – 1 pm. Subsequent Saturdays, VSCs will be conducted at additional area marinas. For more information, contact VSC coordinator Tom Fox at 920.854.2417.

In addition to providing VSCs, six free seminars are scheduled for the season and will be held at SkipperBud’s Quarterdeck Marina the second and fourth Saturday mornings of June, July, and August, with the exception of the June 25 seminar, which will be at Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club.
