Door County Sail & Power Squadron Offers Boater’s Safety Course

The Door County Sail & Power Squadron is offering “ABC-3,” a boater’s safety course, beginning Tuesday, April 19, at the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Sturgeon Bay. The six-session course will provide the basic instruction needed to successfully complete the DNR exam required for a safety certificate issued by the DNR.

Long-time Squadron member Bill Galligan will teach the course. He has sailed in everything from 10-foot dinghies to 65-foot racing machines. He sailed competitively in college and has boated on many of the Great Lakes, several major rivers, and throughout the Caribbean.

Registration is at 6 pm on the April 19 class, which begins at 6:30 pm. Subsequent classes will be from 6:30 – 8:30 pm in Room 103 at NWTC, located at 229 N. 14th Avenue. The course is $35, which includes materials and the DNR exam processing fee. Children, ages 11 – 15, can take the course if accompanied by an adult; however, they must be 12 years old before taking the exam. The Squadron offers a discount for multiple family members.
