Door County Sail & Power Squadron Offers Boating Classes

The Door County Sail & Power Squadron is continuing to offer advanced boating classes to the public. “Engine Maintenance,” an eight-week course, will begin Monday, Jan. 10 at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Sturgeon Bay from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.

The course will stress the diagnosis of modern systems, while also teaching the basics of engine layout and operation. Gasoline inboards, outboards, and diesel engines will be taught in a way that reinforces the common aspects of how engines work.

“Engine Maintenance” will cover repairs that do-it-yourselfers can still perform on modern engines that feature computerized systems, and also teach participants how to diagnose problems that might be beyond a do-it-yourselfer’s ability to fix. The course will also teach participants basic mechanical systems and how to effectively share information with a mechanic. Finally, participants will learn solutions to problems that might occur while afloat and away from a repair facility.

There is a charge for the course; however, the “Sail-Away” package is still available and, if purchased, will provide a new member the “Engine Maintenance” course at the squadron membership rate.

NWTC is located at 229 N. 14 Avenue. The class will take place in Room 103. For more information and/or to register, contact John Welch at 920.746.1179 or via email at [email protected].
