Door County Schools Schedule Make-up Days

• Local schools have scheduled make-up instruction days after closing Jan. 6-8 for cold weather.

Sevastopol’s make-up day is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 24

Southern Door’s make-up day is scheduled for June 6

Sturgeon Bay’s make-up day is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 7

• For more than two decades, Leadership Door County (LDC) has prepared leaders to serve the community through an experiential mode of learning. Past LDC alumni have gone on to provide leadership in ways that impact the quality of life and the sustainability of the county’s livelihood. In an effort to recognize those individuals who have gone above and beyond in serving the community through exceptional leadership, Leadership Door County established a Leaders Among Us Award in 2012. The first recipient of the Leaders Among Us award in 2012 was Sherry Mutchler, who has played a pivotal role in the development and sustainability of the Women’s Fund of Door County. Nominees are being sought for the second annual Leaders Among Us award. The announcement of the award recipient and recognition of all nominees will occur at the Leadership Door County Commencement Ceremony on June 17, 2014.

Nominees should be full-time residents of Door County whose leadership has demonstrated significance, effectiveness, inclusiveness and innovation and has not been recognized through other awards. • In 2013, the Door County Visitors Bureau certified 83 new Certified Tourism Ambassadors, which brings the total number certified since March 2009 to 548. The newest CTAs, who helped to keep up the tradition of December being the smallest class of each year, are Stephanie Jones of the Waterbury Inn, Michael Green of Scrimshanders and Marybeth Mattson of Novel Ideas.

In 2014, seven classes are scheduled throughout the county, including: Feb. 13; March 7; April 15; May 21; June 17;
