Door County Shuttle & Taxi Adds New Mini-Bus to Fleet

• Door County Shuttle & Taxi has acquired a new mini-bus. The larger capacity (25 passengers) bus and more comfortable amenities are ideal for Packer games, bachelor/bachelorette parties, or private tours for an organization where a larger coach may be prohibitive. The DVD/CD player, AM/FM radio and wireless PA system can entertain passengers while touring. This coach-style bus has high back reclining seats with pillow top seat cushions, overhead lighting and air conditioning and heating with adjustable vents in each seat. The rear compartment can hold luggage for all 25 passengers, and there are enclosed storage compartments above the seats as well.

This new bus complements a fleet of three city taxi vans and other specialty vehicles: a 12-passenger 1974 Checker Aerobus and a 1977 Checker Marathon taxicab. Taxi service is available throughout Door County seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Checkers are available for charters and tours in and around Sturgeon Bay and Door County.

• The Third Avenue Playhouse (TAP) Board of Directors is pleased to announce that James Valcq and Robert Boles have been named as managing director and artistic director effective October 1.

Valcq and Boles will replace Judy Drew who is resigning effective September 24 to take a position with The Ridges Sanctuary in Baileys Harbor. Drew has been at TAP’s helm since 2004. During her tenure, the theater has staged increasingly ambitious seasons which have attracted local and regional performers and resulted in a growing audience base.

“During our first decade, our goal was to stabilize the organization and secure its position in the community,” said Dennis Statz, TAP’s board president. “Having laid the foundation for that, we hope that the next decade will be focused on strategic growth and expansion.”

Valcq is already well known in Door County for his collaboration with American Folklore Theatre (AFT) co-founder, Fred Alley. Valcq composed the score and he and Alley co-authored the book for The Spitfire Grill. AFT is producing the award-winning musical this fall with Valcq directing. Valcq has also been Door Shakespeare’s resident composer and a member of the acting company.

Boles has over 35 years of professional experience in theatre, film and television. His film work has included First Wives Club, The Royal Tenenbaums, and Ransom. Most recently he has been the director of the University of New Haven theatre program in Connecticut. Locally he has worked with the American Folklore Theatre in a production of The Spitfire Grill.

• Joshua Nelson recently completed professional massage therapy training and is now practicing Therapeutic Massage, Craniosacral Therapy and Myofascial Release Therapy at Nelson Healing Center in Sturgeon Bay.

Nelson is excited to introduce people to holistic medicine and preventative health care.

“In Holistic Medicine we pursue and treat the root cause of symptoms like pain, illness or disease,” Nelson said. “Western medicine masks the symptoms, only delaying the inevitable return of the dysfunction, which usually returns more severe. My training in Therapeutic Massage and Holistic Medicine has given me the skills to assess underlying dysfunction and provide a customized treatment plan for each individual client. Living an active life, that is free of pain, is possible for everyone.”

Nelson completed an intensive, yearlong program at the Blue Sky School of Professional Massage & Therapeutic Bodywork in Green Bay, where his training included traditional therapeutic massage techniques and explored a wide range of related modalities.

In addition to Therapeutic and Relaxation massage training, Nelson completed course work in Cranial Sacral Therapy, Lymphatic Massage, Precision Neuromuscular Therapy for the Spine and Thorax, Polarity Therapy, Lomi Lomi Massage, Jin Shin Do Acupressure and Ayurveda: The Dynamics of Rejuvenation.

Nelson will be practicing at Nelson Healing Center, located at 44 S 2nd Ave in Sturgeon Bay, which offers professional massage therapy and therapeutic bodywork as well as chiropractic care, nutritional support, yoga and other wellness classes.
