Door County String Academy Offers Instruction

On October 3 the Door County String Academy will begin another year of providing string instruction to the youth of Door County. There are still a few spaces open for interested students ages seven to 18. No playing experience is necessary to join the program and instruments are available for rent through the academy.

Founded by the Peninsula Music Festival in 1996, the program provides individual instruction in violin, viola, cello and string bass as well as orchestra experience to the children in Door County. In the spring of 2008, the program became a stand-alone non-profit organization and was re-named Door County String Academy. For the past 15 years, hundreds of Door County children have participated in the program.

Classes and orchestra rehearsals are held at Hope Church in Sturgeon Bay. All students receive a weekly private lesson with a professional instructor and have the opportunity to participate in a string orchestra.

The academy makes lessons available to all students, regardless of their ability to pay – a financial assistance program allows families to receive reduced class fees and/or instrument rental.
