Door County Students Take Part in Powerful Production of “The Laramie Project”

Coming May 6, 7 and 8 to Third Avenue Playhouse (TAP) is The Laramie Project, a StageKids production in cooperation with the Matthew Shepard Foundation.

In 1998 the murder of a gay University of Wyoming student by the name of Matthew Shepard caught the attention of the world and sparked a debate that continues to this day on the need for federal and state hate crime laws. The play draws on hundreds of interviews conducted by the Tectonic Theater Project with inhabitants of the town, company members’ own journal entries, and published news reports.

The play will be performed by 12 students representing schools throughout Door County. The play is not recommended for children 12 and under.

Tickets are $15 general admission and $10 students. Performances will be held at 7:30 pm Friday and Saturday and at 2 pm on Sunday. Third Avenue Playhouse is located at 239 N. Third Avenue in Sturgeon Bay. For more information visit thirdavenueplayhouse.com.
