Door County to Crown New “Idol”

Door County’s brightest young talents will compete for the 2012 Door County Idol crown Feb. 11.

The singing competition returns to the mainstage at the Door Community Auditorium, serving as both a vibrant community gathering and a celebration of Door County’s abundant homegrown talent.

This year’s contestants are senior Katelaine Buske and junior Lena MacDonald of Gibraltar, junior Brittany Hallet and senior Mitchell Schlise of Southern Door High School, senior Lauren Davison of Sturgeon Bay High School, and senior Trevor Hietpas of Sevastopol High School.

After each finalist performs two songs of his or her choice on the Door Community Auditorium mainstage a panel of local judges will choose a winner with help from the audience. This year’s judging panel includes Nick Freimuth of the radio station WBDK, Rachel Manek of Fox 11 news and Good Day Wisconsin, and Robert Boles of Third Avenue Playhouse. The evening will be hosted by award-winning Southern Door teacher Cory Vandertie and will also feature a performance by 2011 Idol winner Zephyr Ciesar.

Door County Idol is sponsored by Cynthia Stiehl, The Bistro at Liberty Square, and On Deck Clothing Company.

Tickets for Door County Idol cost $10. Advance ticket reservations are highly recommended. Tickets can be purchased by calling 920.868.2728, visiting http://www.dcauditorium.org, or in person at the DCA box office Monday through Friday, 12 – 5 pm.
