Door County Triathlon donates $60,000 to charity

• The Door County Triathlon made $60,000 in donations to county non-profits. The triathlon’s board voted to donate $30,000 each to Door County YMCA and to the Friends of Door County Parks. Last year the event raised $25,000 for each group. Since it was launched seven years ago, the Door County Triathlon has donated $188,000 to area non-profits, including $92,500 each to the YMCA and the Friends of Door County Parks.

• Fourteen of Door County’s 21 supervisors attended the Wisconsin Counties Association annual conference in September. Four county employees joined them for sessions that included the consolidation of services, union negotiations, serving the mentally ill in county jails, budgeting and social media.

• Action Realty and the Door County Economic Development Corporation held a ribbon cutting and open house for the Sunset Hills #2 workforce housing development in Sturgeon Bay Oct. 4. The first two homes of the 17-lot development were open for tours. The City of Sturgeon Bay created a down payment assistance program to provide $5,000 no-interest forgivable loans to help with the down payment for qualified homebuyers in the development.
