Door County UUF Screens “Strangers in Good Company”

Strangers in Good Company will be screened on Tuesday, Dec. 21 at 4:30 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (UUF) of Door County in Ephraim. The Canadian drama from 1991 tells the story of eight elderly women who have to depend on one another when their bus breaks down in the rural countryside.

The film is a slower pace, as the emphasis is on ordinary events that reveal information about the lives of the characters. The director, Cynthia Scott, utilized a nonprofessional cast and improvised dialogue. Strangers in Good Company has been described as “an exuberant celebration life” that promises a “deeply rewarding and enriching experience” when viewed multiple times.

There will be a post-screening discussion that will likely elicit a thoughtful conversation about aging; Strangers will call stereotypical impressions of the elderly into question.

Movies That Matter are presented each month by the Social Responsibility Committee of the UUF. This series of films screenings is free and open to the public on the third Tuesday of each month. The new starting time is 4:30 pm through the winter months. The UUF is located at 10341 Highway 42 in Ephraim. For more information call 920.854.7559 or visit http://www.uufdc.org.
