The Wisconsin Department of Tourism welcomes the Door County Visitor Bureau (DCVB) as a certified member of its Travel Green Wisconsin program. With a longstanding conservation legacy, this program furthers Wisconsin’s commitment to sustainability.

The DCVB earned its certification in part by implementing greener practices such as using soy ink to print nearly a quarter-million visitor guides each year to help minimize their environmental footprint. The DCVB joins more than 545 Travel Green Wisconsin Certified businesses, including 55 in Door County.

The DCVB spearheaded an effort to create a network of electric vehicle charging stations throughout Door County last year to help attract eco-conscious visitors, installing the county’s first two electric vehicle charging stations in the process at the Door County Welcome Center.

These efforts will continue in 2015 with an increased focus on expanding the number of electric vehicle charging stations available throughout Door County, and by promoting this to potential travelers who own electric vehicles.

“We’re excited to join a growing list of Travel Green Wisconsin businesses,” said Jack Moneypenny, president/CEO of the DCVB. “It’s a great program that we feel is not only good for business, but is a great fit with our focus on sustainable tourism initiatives,” he said.

Travel Green Wisconsin was the first of its kind in the nation and serves as a model to promote environmentally friendly practices in the tourism industry. The program is unique for its inclusion of all tourism-related businesses and organizations including but not limited to attractions, events, accommodations, outfitters, restaurants, retail, visitor centers and more.
