Door County Visitors May Face Delays on I-94

Door County business owners are hoping the massive reconstruction project slated for I-94 this summer doesn’t deter Chicago vacationers from making the trek to the peninsula.

“For Chicago travelers, I still recommend they stay on 94, drive at off-peak times or leave a few hours earlier. Wisconsin is still open for business,” said Emlynn Grisar of the Wisconsin DOT.

The $1.9 billion project will widen I-94 to four lanes in each direction for a 35-mile stretch between Chicago and Milwaukee. During construction, traffic will be restricted to two lanes each way, beginning in May.

A Web site, http://www.plan94.org, will be launched later this week to monitor the work.
