Door County Women Pair up for Dickinson Poetry Series

A pair of Door County poets will present their works at the Dickinson Poetry Series November 11, 7 pm, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Ephraim.

Gerri Friedberg of Egg Harbor happened upon her interest in poetry while in school reflecting, “I’ve never considered myself a poet, but when I was in college, lines would sometimes occur to me, often in sleep. I’d write them down, play with the words and was amazed that it seemed poetic!” She added, “I’ve always enjoyed reading and writing so when the muse appears, I gratefully ‘listen’ and play with images.”

Joining Friedberg is long-time Sister Bay resident, Anita Beckstrom, whose Door County roots go back three generations. Beckstrom was schooled in Milwaukee, studying art and English in college. On returning to the county she worked for over two decades at the Instructional Media Center at Gibraltar School. She exhibited artwork for many years but turned to writing poetry in 2000 and meets regularly with the Wallace Group of poets in Sister Bay. She has a chapbook coming out soon. Her poems have appeared in The Wisconsin Poets’ Calendar, Penisula Pulse, Free Verse, and The Museletter.

The Dickinson Poetry Series is organized and presented at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 10341 Highway 42, Ephraim. It is free and open to the public. Following the featured poets there is an opportunity for veteran and budding poets to read their work. December’s featured poet is Phil Hansotia of Ellison Bay.
