Door County YMCA Hosts Healthy Kids Day

On Saturday, April 16 the YMCA is encouraging all kids and parents in Door County to come to the Y for a play date, and commit to being active every day. It’s all part of the YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day™ – the nation’s largest health day for families.

The free event will take place at the Northern Door Program Center in Fish Creek from 9 am – 1 pm and feature activities such as climbing the cargo net, swimming in the pool with the giant inflatable, bouncing in the bounce house, family yoga, painting pottery and more.

From 1 – 5 pm, the Sturgeon Bay YMCA will host free family activities, open swimming, try-it gymnastics classes and offer healthy snacks.

“At the Y of Door County, we know that parents struggle to find the time to incorporate more active play and healthier habits into their kids’ daily routine,” said Matt Luders, Relationship Development Executive at the Y in Fish Creek.

As part of Healthy Kids Day, the Y encourages families to make play dates everyday to become healthier, more active and connected. Play date ideas include playing inside games that incorporate physical activity, such as Charades, taking a bike ride, playing outside games such as hopscotch, jump rope or freeze tag, or grabbing a ball and playing soccer, basketball or baseball.

Healthy Kids Day is supported by Ministry Door County Memorial Hospital. In addition, the Fish Creek Y will host representatives from the Ephraim Fire Department, who will conduct tours of their fire equipment in Fish Creek.
