Door County YMCA Will Continue Summer Foods Program this Summer

The Door County YMCA announced it will offer a Summer Foods Program for area children once again this summer. This is the sixth year of a community-wide collaboration led by the YMCA with the goal of ensuring that all children in the community have access to nutritious meals during the summer months.

This year the YMCA will partner closely with the Boys and Girls Club of Door County to provide this signature mission-based program. The Boys and Girls Club has offered the use of their new commercial kitchen and chef. This partnership helps retain quality, consistency and the efficiency of the year-round efforts to provide healthy meals for children.

“We are pleased that the Club’s chef Damian Howard will join our program team for the summer and we appreciate the opportunity to use their kitchen space,” said YMCA CEO Tom Beerntsen. “The Boys and Girls Club has been a collaborative partner since the founding of the program and has been the largest host site of the program in recent years,” Beerntsen explained.

The YMCA will continue to direct and manage the thirteen-week USDA supported Summer Food Service Program that begins the week of June 5. Individuals interested in donating to the Summer Foods Program or volunteering with the program this summer are invited to contact Beerntsen at [email protected].
