Door County’s Bayview Bridge Closure Pushed from 2012 to 2013

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) announced that work on Sturgeon Bay’s Bayview Bridge in Door County, originally scheduled for 2012, has been rescheduled to early spring 2013.

“By delaying the bridge work a year, we have an opportunity to combine two projects, lessening the total traffic impact to Door County,” said DOT regional director Will Dorsey.

The Bayview Bridge is scheduled for a new deck, approaches and electrical upgrades, including the ability for remote operations. It will be completely closed to vehicle traffic during these repairs. Bridge traffic will be detoured through the city of Sturgeon Bay.

It is being combined with another project on WIS 42/57 that runs for approximately 10 miles from County Highway MM (south junction of WIS 42/57) to East Joms Road north of the Bayview Bridge. This is a highway rehabilitation project that includes both traffic safety and operational improvements. Work on the highway south of the bridge will be done under traffic with single lane closures.

WisDOT plans to begin both projects in early spring 2013 and have the road and bridge open to traffic by the 4th of July holiday
