Door County’s Christ Child Society Celebrates with Shower of Love, Dec. 8

Members of the Door County chapter of the Christ Child Society celebrated the 150th birthday of Christ Child Society founder Mary Virginia Merrick by sewing 60 flannel burp clothes. This first National Make a Difference Day was based on the theme, Layettes of Love, since the packing of layettes goes back to the society’s origin when Merrick and her friends made and distributed the first layettes for babies born at Christmas time.

The Door County chapter also worked on infant stimulation flash cards. Both items will be included with other supplies in the layettes for our county’s infants in need.

On Dec. 8, the Door County chapter will celebrate its annual Shower of Love at the 8:20 am children’s mass at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Donations of new baby clothes, blankets, diapers or other infant needs are brought to this Mass. To donate, call Sarah (743.6087) or Kathy (495.5857) or drop them off at Corpus Christi, St. Joseph, St. Peter and Paul or Stella Maris church office.
