Door County’s Fairfield Hosts Art Sale in Sturgeon Bay

Spring is here at last, and Door County residents and visitors are getting ready to celebrate the new season with Sturgeon Bay’s first annual Groovin’ Sisterhood Weekend, scheduled for April 25 – 27. In conjunction with the citywide festivities, the Fairfield Art Center will be hosting its first-ever Spring Art Sale.

The Spring Art Sale will be open free to the public every day during the Groovin’ Sisterhood Weekend: from 10 am – 5 pm on Friday and Saturday and from noon – 3 pm on Sunday. Available for purchase will be a wide variety of original and reproduction artwork in several mediums, as well as art books, art-related supplies and even home decor items. All Spring Art Sale purchases will include a half-price Fairfield Art Center membership and a free Henry Moore poster while supplies last.

“This is going to be a great opportunity to purchase great art at great prices, as well as to support our art center in what we hope will become a popular annual fundraiser,” said Shan Bryan-Hanson, the Fairfield’s exhibitions director.

In addition, visitors may purchase raffle tickets throughout the three-day sale for an opportunity to win a select piece of high-end artwork, chosen by the Fairfield staff. Groovin’ Sisterhood Weekend participants also will find raffle tickets in their special-event tote bags.

The raffle winner will be announced at 2 pm on Sunday, during the art sale’s closing reception. The reception, which is open free to the public, will allow visitors to enjoy a glass of wine and tantalizing cheeses from Café Launch while they choose the perfect gift or that one special item to enhance the home – and perhaps take a final chance on winning the coveted prize.

Bryan-Hanson said that all types of contributions are essential to the success of the Spring Art Sale, whether it’s volunteering time, donating artwork or simply making an arts-related purchase.

“We couldn’t continue in our mission as an arts center without the many ways our community shows its support,” she said.
